MP3 Player for the Music Lover

Just stumbled across a CNET article from like 3 years ago that brought me around to it’s idea:

Where’s the music player for the true music lover?

Seems the iPod, the Zune, the Sansa, etc are targeted for the everyman- which makes sense, that’s where the money and marketshare is.  But where’s the player that has something more than just a tiny square on a small screen to represent the album art?  The player that interacts with music blogs and alerts you when artists in your library are playing a show nearby?  Where’s the player for the person who wants to sort by record label, or download sheet music or guitar tabs?  For the person who wants linked in Wikipedia articles, YouTube videos, last.fm accounts, and artist Twitter streams?  Seems today everyone’s focused on making the MP3 player do more- browsers, apps, twitter clients, games… how about we perfect the music part first?

Just a thought.  I’m gonna try and do more tech writing, and maybe some audio and video too, because being a tech journalist at some point in my life is highly appealing to me…
